Ceremity recently partnered with a major office supply retailer in order to reimagine its product delivery service. The office supply retailer offers a variety of products and business services to individual and small business customers. With the ability to shop in store, online, via mobile or through social apps, customers can find what they need, when they need it. Those buying online can pick-up their orders in store or ship their purchases instead.
The company’s commercial delivery fleet, over two thousand trucks strong, is responsible for delivering online orders to customers. Like any other delivery system, drivers need to be able to review their daily route, know what package(s) should be delivered to a location, update the system once a delivery is made, and have customers sign for the arrival of their shipment with ease. On the other hand, customers need the ability to easily track their package in real-time, from when the order was placed, prepared, shipped, and delivered.
To provide drivers and customers with these features, this office product retailer invested in hand-held devices with software designed to log pertinent shipment and customer information. However, the solution required the company to work with a third party who managed the order system data and subsequent delivery details. Unfortunately, working with a third-party provider proved inefficient, untimely and very costly.
After turning to Ceremity, a solution was developed for the handheld device that would integrate with their internal systems, eliminating inefficiencies and added costs. The solution offered various benefits including:
Order Tracking: customers could see where their package is at all times and the company could oversee where their fleet is in real-time
Offline Capabilities: devices would still function if drivers lost internet connection since information could be downloaded offline; once back online, the device would sync back to the server transmitting delivery information
Electronic Signature: a signature box appears on the device for customers to sign in receipt of their package; their signature is transmitted to the server for storage
Thanks to a deep experience in handheld and mobile application development, Ceremity was a clear winner, and a clear choice create a delivery application for this business product retailer.
Once deployed to production environments, the new delivery system will shorten package tracking delay time and provide near immediate updates for consumers. All of the data collected and transmitted by the handheld devices will be stored in the company cloud infrastructure eliminating the costly third party fees.
